Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico

The mission of the Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico (ASPNM) is to enhance the lives of children and adults with disability through recreation.

2018
Dralla Balloon Fiesta Float

Participants in this unforgettable day spend time on the Rio Grande River on kayaks and rafts utilizing specialized equipment.  This takes place during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which is the largest ballooning event on earth.  Almost 600 hot air balloons soar overhead, some even dip into the river feet from the rafts!

Testimonials
"This was an experience of a lifetime. A New Mexico true adventure. So fun, so tranquil and beautiful. We love that ASPNM provides these experiences and donors make them possible for families like ours. No word will express the feeling of being in the river surrounded by balloons."
Viola Cano, mother of ASPNM athlete Faith
"Thank you all so much for the amazing trip down the Rio Grande@! Tifa has been talking about it all week. I cannot tell you how grateful we are for you all & Adaptive Sports NM! Thank you so much and for working to make inclusive space for everyone."
Sandra Yellowstone, mother of ASPNM athlete Tifa
"Since I was injured and I lost my leg above the knee while serving in the Army, my opportunities to get out with other people and participate in recreational activities has been very limited. So when I was informed by your organization, Adaptive Sports Program of New Mexico, that there was a spot available for me on the Dralla Balloon Fiesta Float, I was very excited. Now that the event is over I want to explain how much I appreciate all the hard work your staff did to make my day awesome. Helping me down to the river and into the kayak, and Magnolia worked hard to get us through the shallow spots and to the balloons. The balloons were a memory I will never forget. They were splashing and dashing all around us and we were high fiving the pilots and talking with the balloonists. It was more than I ever expected. I have so many videos and pictures of the event, and I will enclose a couple I like. Thank you again for everything. I had a great time."
