Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago’s Caring for Kids program targets low-income Chicago residents between the ages of 6 and 17 who have a physically disabling condition. The summer camp program runs 4 days a week, for two 2 week sessions (4 weeks total). Of the many activities offered during Caring for Kids summer camp one of the most anticipated is the adaptive sailing day offered through the Judd Goldman Adaptive Sailing Program. The Caring for Kids participants enjoy the day on beautiful Lake Michigan, learn some of the basics of sailing, the terminology, and even get to steer the boat on their own. This experience for many participants is not only their first time sailing, but also it is the first time out on Lake Michigan. It is always a memorable day, greatly anticipated by all who attend.
